The Tyra Banks Show

Yep, that’s right. My wife and I taped an episode of the Tyra Banks Show where we shared the experiences we’ve had in our atypical arrangement—namely, I stay home and she works. The experience was great and Tyra was very cool. I give her mad props for empowering women and since her demographic is young—for empowering young women. To me, that’s a very important service to provide—especially considering that we are busy raising three young women ourselves.

Our appearance on the show is brief—like really brief, but in that time Tyra managed to plug my book, show off photos of my daughters and allow my wife and me to give the world a quick snapshot into our lives. Basically, it was all we could have hoped for and more. If you are interested in checking out the show, tune in to the Tyra Show on February the 18th. If you would like to get more details and/or interview me for a blog post prior to the shows airing— This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Responsible Partying for Dads on New Year’s Eve

New Years Family CelebrationEach year it happens without fail—the Earth gets older. It’s as fine a thing to celebrate as anything else I suppose. And with any celebration, you can either go responsible or go crazy. This year, we are hosting a family New Year’s celebration. That means items like mother-in-laws, children of all ages, and maybe a great-grandparent thrown in for good measure. How do we salvage a good time with ingredients like those? It may seem impossible at first glance, but there are ways. So, I took it upon myself to come up with a list of festive activities and arranged them via do’s and don’ts for the family New Year’s celebration.

Do’s and Don’ts for the Family New Year’s Celebrations

sexy dadAre you sexy? Do you want your spouse to think you are? Read on…

I proposed the question, “What can husbands do to be sexier?” the other day to my good friend Twitter.  Before I knew it, I was bombarded with responses from my tweepsAnne Marie Busch, author of New Beginnings, simply replied saying, “shower.” Most of the initial responses I got were funny jabs from wives at their significant others or goofy answers like Stephanie Elliot had:

@Joeprah Throw money at me during sex?

@Joeprah Do Laundry and dishes in the nude?

Eventually though the responses got more to the point. Stephanie, author of the blog Manic Mommy, said, “Put the kids to bed then bring me a glass of wine…,” followed by, “Really sexy if I were to come upstairs and find the bed MADE without me having to do it! That would get my motor running!”

Her real point was that a dad being a good dad is something that women find sexy. As far as I can tell, this is the ultimate win-win-win situation. First, the kids are getting more attention from their dad which has been proven to be very important to the development of children. The kids get to see their dad taking on the chores. This lets the kids know that chores don’t have any gender attached to them which sends a powerful message. Finally, mom gets a break and dad has a better shot of spending quality time with the little lady later on.  Does it get any better than that?

Want more proof? The responses didn’t stop there.

Dad Bloggers Project: Leave Tiger Alone

Written by Dad Blogs

tigerThis will be the second group effort here at Dad Blogs, this time we are focusing (as is the rest of the nation) on Tiger Woods. In my opinion we need to leave the guy alone, but I am sure others will disagree--and that's the nature of this project. Let's be heard as a group in the "Dad Bloggers Project: Leave Tiger Alone."

Here are the guidlines/tips:

Be creative - put together a music video, do a webcam monologue, do a painting, a poem (no haiku--cause I said so), a blog post--let your creativity flow

Be opinionated - no one wants to read a post that says, "I have no opinion"

Be controversial - say why you think there should be more coverage, say why you hate sports personalities, say why you hate ESPN, say why you think Tiger is a bad dad or a good dad, talk about the importance of second chances or why you think infidelity deserves public scrutiny

Post your links below in the Mr. Linky widget

Dads, Don’t be Tongue-Tied at Grace: Tips for a Great Thanksgiving Blessing

Written by Joeprah

tgprayerDads, as it is a tradition in many households across the country on Thanksgiving, we give thanks before stuff ourselves full of tryptophan laden Turkey and mashed potatoes topped with steaming gravy. For many families the grace or blessing is the job of the dad of the household, and for many of us this is a moment where we have no clue how to proceed.

What makes a good blessing? What is appropriate? How do I prepare?

First, what do we say? For many of us the blessing will allow us an opportunity to pay homage to our creator. For others it’s a time for us to reflect on what we are thankful for during our last year. And, for some we give thanks to both God and the blessings he has given us in our lives. Regardless of what your family chooses to say when you bow your heads, it is best to be ready. I have heard many a off the cuff blessing go wrong in both message and execution. I have heard the long winded, where the hell is he going with this already blessing, and I have heard the wait, what did he say grace. So, with the themes of clarity and content in mind I am providing a few suggestions for this year’s Thanksgiving blessing.

First, some tips on how to deliver a good blessing.
