What is a Birth Plan?

A birth plan helps the new mother and father decide on how they would like to manage their labour, and the birth of their new baby. It covers aspects such as:

  • Medication/Pain Relief
  • Caesarean Sections
  • Cameras/Music
  • Inducing Methods

Having both parents agree on how to deal with issues such as this as and when they arise has a number of benefits. Firstly, it allows the father to feel more involved in the pregnancy, in making decisions relating to his child. Secondly, it provides the mother with relaxation and comfort during labour, safe in the knowledge that important decisions have already been made. Finally, making the midwife aware of these decisions allows him or her to carry out their role with minimal fuss and disruption.

zoeyIt is one thing to just tell everyone you are a dad, but what if you could actually show it?

Be a proud papa.

Take a moment and visit Zoey's attic. Zoey's attic is an on-line apparel store for parents. They have an entire section of the site geared towards dads. How great would it look in your baby's birth pictures? You can walk around the hospital and everyone will know who you are. You are "The Dad."

Choose from a wide range of colors, sizes and sayings.

It will make your child's "birth" day even more special.

Image: geishaboy500 via Flickr.Alright, so you have the route, to your hospital, all planned out for the moment when "mommy" goes into labor, and she is all packed, but have you thought about what you need?

Yes, you will be there too and will also need plenty of things while at the hospital waiting for your child to arrive. The hospital usually caters very well to "mommy," however, daddy somehow gets left out in the cold, literally. (Bring a blanket!) You think you will not need a lot until you are there and all of a sudden remember all the things you need to take a shower, such as a new change of clothes and a phone charger!

So, have no fear and use this easy checklist of important items that a new dad requires.

sex after kidsIt is no secret that during pregnancy, and after the birth of your baby, the spark in your relationship tends to be put on the back burner.  Most dads find it frustrating, at times, that they cannot enjoy their partner's company as much as they did before the child was in the picture. Between diaper changes, crying and bath time where can you find the time to be intimate?

It can sometimes be a really difficult situation and some parents begin to feel disassociated, with each other, because of the lack of contact. It is true that a child can put a limit or strain on a relationship, but it does not have to be that way. Work together, talk to each other about your concerns. It may be that not only you are feeling neglected; your partner may be "missing" you too. Be sure to utilize your city. Go online and do some research. There are tons of venues for you to take refuge.

sleeping newbornIt is a warm, sultry night  and all the stars of the night sky have come out to greet the evening moon. The beautiful moonlight is strone across the wall from a man rocking his child back and forth trying to sooth his little one into the land of nod. "Why won't he stop crying?" The man says to himself. He knows he cannot continue along the path of little or no sleep and continue on his day-to-day activities. The room should be a quiet and serene sanctuary and it seems as if this would be the perfect place for a child to fall asleep, but instead, for this new dad, all that can be heard are the desperate screams of a crying babe.

This issue is all too common for new parents to deal with during the first few months after having a baby. It is frustrating for sure, but fear not, there are some helpful hints that can turn those sad, late night crying babies into happy snoring angels.

Please understand that each child is different and these hints, yet effective, most of the time, are not always the rule of thumb. It seems as if losing sleep is a rite-of-passage for most parents, but don't fret dear fathers, as your child adjusts as will you.
