Something very frightening is happening in this country. The activist conservative leaning Texas Board of Education is determined to re-write history. Why is this so scary? It is because Texas is one of the largest markets for textbooks in the country. So, nationwide supplies of textbooks must concern themselves with incorporating Texas guidelines more so than other state’s where fewer books will be sold. Therefore, the Texas BOE has a heavily weighted influence on the material in public school textbooks across the country.
Now, don’t get me wrong, children should be taught our complete history, liberal and conservative. But, what the Board of Education of Texas is proposing is not bilateral symmetry as they suggest wherein they include things that may have been left out in the past. Rather, they are suggesting revisionist history wherein they remove things that they don’t like and alter things that may be unfavorable in order to make certain things appear praiseworthy and just that may not be.
