Fatherhood Friday is both a day and a growing community of dads and moms sharing stories, ideas, photos and movies with one topic in mind - fatherhood. In a world that seems happy to deliver a message that dads are incapable buffoons, Dad Blogs is committed to changing that perception. The reality is, as we see it, parents today are more aware of parenting and the impact it has on their children and dads everywhere are becoming more active caregivers. Man, I'm totally embarrassed that I haven't been around. I mean seriously, how can I compete with Joe and Tyra? Even Joe's kid was named Student of the Month! All I can claim is that I'm a level 18 farmer on FarmVille (who could use some more neighbors...just sayin').
In spite of my absence, it seems like things are moving along here at DB well enough, thanks to Super Joe. I'm convinced that he's a robot. Who can do all that he does and never sleep? I don't get it. Give props to the man for keeping it going. Mega props to all of our columnists and community blog contributors as well - without you, we wouldn't be where we are today.
Enough back-patting, though. I actually do have a funny story about my younger daughter and her penchant for drama. The other day, my wife and I were out doing something at night and my daughters were at home. Both kids have cell phones, so it's common that we get messages throughout the day with things like pictures of rocks, text messages with a dozen emoticons or whatever. In this case, though, my youngest got scared for some reason, so she decided to let me know via text message. Yes, there was a picture attached.
Message: "I'm scared!"
Accompanying photo: I'd post it, but she would be so bummed. I don't have the money for a lifetime of child therapy, but I assure you that it was a melodramatic self-portrait of her looking scared.
Of course I called back, I'm not that heartless. Besides, she was fine and just wanted to know when we would be home. I sometimes wonder why we put our kids in drama class for so many years. Well, let's get on with it - Fatherhood Friday 38!
