Fatherhood Friday is both a day and a growing community of dads and moms sharing stories, ideas, photos and movies with one topic in mind - fatherhood. In a world that seems happy to deliver a message that dads are incapable buffoons, Dad Blogs is committed to changing that perception. The reality is, as we see it, parents today are more aware of parenting and the impact it has on their children and dads everywhere are becoming more active caregivers. If you don't believe me--check out the posts in our archives.

So, my wife was out of town this past week and I got a taste of what life would be like as a single parent--and, I can say without a doubt, it's hard. As a stay-at-home dad, I have seen my fair share of the parenting trade, but non-stop for three days was rough. But you know what the hardest part was? I let my three daughters sleep in my room each night. They alternated each night with a different two in the bed and one on the floor. It was my little way of comforting them while mom was out of town. They really liked it. Kind of like it was one big sleepover for three nights. That's all well and good, but my daughters each have serious sleep issues/annoyances. My oldest is what I like to call a flinger. She flings her arms around at night as she sleeps. Picture a less agile, sleeping ballet dancer--who is nine with sharp elbows. That's my oldest.
The middle child is an enigma even to herself. She sucks her thumb occasionally--REALLY LOUDLY. When she isn't sucking her thumb she's making an even louder faux-sucking-her-thumb sound which is perhaps the most annoying sound ever conceived. Finally, she will (without warning) shift to sleep perpendicularly to the norm slamming her legs and feet across unsuspecting coinhabitants of the bed. She's a flat out menace.
The youngest has serious personal space issues--she has no "personal space." She actually will shove her head against the parent she is "snuggling/sleeping" with like she is trying to force her skull somehow through theirs. It hurts. I found that no matter how many times I moved her off to the side away from me, she found a way to reunite her forehead with mine. It was like she had some kind of magnet in her head. On top of her magnetic forehead, she is a flailer. If the oldest is an uncoordinated sleeping ballet dancer in her sleep, the youngest is a sprinkler gone awry. I remember at one point I think she completed the choreography for the YMCA dance in her sleep and I have scratches and bruises that can attest to that.
So, besides the sleeping arrangement thing and parenting non-stop. It was business as usual. Anyways, enough about me.
Theme
We are keeping with tradition. That's the theme from here until the new year. Remember, themes are optional so don't feel obligated to write to the theme--just something to help you break the writers block.
Site Updates:
The Feeds are gone. So, if you haven't done so, get your blog listed at the newer, cooler Blog Directory. The blog directory is for listing blogs and for reviewing them. There are a lot of cool blogs listed in the directory--don't forget to add yours. Also, seriously--review others to get reciprocal traffic to your blog. If someone reviews your blog--review 'em back. It's common courtesy. Like giving someone the ball back if they make a shot in basketball warm ups. So, get to it. Review your own blog, review your friends, review strangers, review your enemies--just review.
Subscribe to our feeds. They are once again healthy and if you haven't put the front page feed or the community feed into your reader--now's a great time.
Still time to win a book! Well, it's not just any book--it's my book, "Daddy, where's your vagina? What I learned as a stay-at-home dad. Any self-respecting book collector needs to have an autographed copy of this book and it just so happens we are giving away three! Score! Enter the contest early and enter the contest often.
