Fatherhood Friday is both a day and a growing community of dads and moms sharing stories, ideas, photos and movies with one topic in mind - fatherhood. In a world that seems happy to deliver a message that dads are incapable buffoons, Dad Blogs is committed to changing that perception. The reality is, as we see it, parents today are more aware of parenting and the impact it has on their children and dads everywhere are becoming more active caregivers. I was talking--rather typing instant messages back and forth, with my friend from Australia, Reservoir Dad. He had a brilliant idea that came on the heels of my brilliant post "Dads: Bringing Sexy Back." Basically, the thought is that our significant others find us sexy because we are stand up guys; because we do the dishes on occasion or more than that; because we goof around with our kids; because we love life and instill that in our mini-me's.
Reservoir Dad took the proverbial ball and ran with it and coined the term 'Mentally Sexy' meaning that there is a state of being when our significant others see us doing the dishes or pushing a mop or plunging the toilet and that registers somehow in their brains as 'sexy.'
So, I suggest we have some fun with it. I propose we set up a contest for 2010 to see who the most 'Mentally Sexy' dad is in the U.S. I will create a section here at DB where members can submit movies or photos with captions. For instance, you could submit a picture of you reading the kids a bedtime story and caption it, "I'm appealing because I read to my kids" or whatever. The submissions can be rated and commented on, and simply based on the amount of votes and ratings we decide on finalists.
When it's all said and done we could give away an iTouch or something as the top prize and something cool to the two runner-ups. After the section is in place I will disseminate the contest details--that is as long as folks want to take part.
