Fatherhood Friday is both a day and a growing community of dads and moms sharing stories, ideas, photos and movies with one topic in mind - fatherhood. In a world that seems happy to deliver a message that dads are incapable buffoons, Dad Blogs is committed to changing that perception. The reality is, as we see it, parents today are more aware of parenting and the impact it has on their children and dads everywhere are becoming more active caregivers. If you don't believe me--check out the posts in our archives.

So here I sit on a Thursday night, wondering how in the heck a post is supposed to be composed and how I've done it in the past. Unfortunately, this whole blogging thing has sort of taken a back seat in recent months for me. I've been following my dreams or something.
Call it a search for my inner artist. A yearning to embrace my suit-clad business man persona. A desire for something different, change I could believe in.
It all started a couple weeks ago with my mother-in-law taking a nasty fall and smacking her head on the concrete. It was a second bad fall in about a year, so my wife and I decided to take some of the household burden from her. I say "take it from her" because she pretty much does everything on her own accord. In her mind, to sit still is to ask death to come quickly. She's right.
In order to lighten her load, I had to cut my work hours back to 30 hours a week. I know, bummer. All I can say is that I almost wish she fell sooner, but of course I'd rather she didn't fall at all. It's been a welcome break, even though the time at work has been replaced by work at home. I've been able to help my wife out at our business (an art gallery - shameless plug: feel free to become a fan on Facebook) and actually have been painting some myself. After two weeks of this schedule, I don't want to go back to full-time. Besides, I finally might be in a groove to try and figure out this blog thing again. I know Joe loves staying up all night and running the show by himself, but I can't let him have all the fun.
Oh yeah, my mother-in-law is doing fine. She didn't get anything except a big bruise and a much needed vacation. Hard heads for the win. I told my wife that it runs in her family. She didn't see the humor. Anyway...
While I continue to work out my life, I'll leave you with the Fatherhood Friday rules of engagement. Follow your dreams. Listen to your heart. Sign up for fantasy baseball so my team can take your team to the woodshed.

Also should use this occasion to thank all of the dads and moms that have made entering "blogland" a real pleasure. I am slowly but surely making the rounds and catching up on what a lot of you have written. You are great bunch of parents and blogmates!
