Fatherhood FridayFatherhood Friday is both a day and a growing community of dads and moms sharing stories, ideas, photos and movies with one topic in mind - fatherhood. In a world that seems happy to deliver a message that dads are incapable buffoons, Dad Blogs is committed to changing that perception. The reality is, as we see it, parents today are more aware of parenting and the impact it has on their children and dads everywhere are becoming more active caregivers. If you don't believe me--check out the posts in our archives.

Fatherhood Friday

I am in the throws of a summer. As a stay-at-home dad I find myself overwhelmed and at the same time astounded by the full unbridled force of children during a heat wave. This summer has been hot, and for some reason that brings out a crazy side of kids. The boo boos are on overdrive, complaining is constant, and I have kids claiming to be bored. I can't understand how children can claim to be 'bored' when I myself can't find more than two seconds to sit down to fold laundry before they are begging to have a mid morning/post lunch snack out of fear of spontaneous starvation. In other words, yeah--the summer is a hectic time. So, during this time of civil unrest, I have found myself turning into quite the dictator. It's clearly the only way to grab control--by brute force and chores.

The theme: Control

I ask of you dads of the internet--'How do you keep control over your flock?' Cite examples, speak candidly of your successes and failures in this department.

Remember, themes are optional, but fun. So, don't stress if you aren't on theme--just keep it real.

Now, onto the links!

Fatherhood Friday (FF) Rules of Engagement

Make sure that you link to Dad Blogs in your FF posts, also--when you post your link here at DB, make sure your link points to your Fatherhood Friday post--not your blog's homepage. So, get your links up and be good stewards of Fatherhood Friday.

The entry that I'm linking to this week is part of a series I've been posting called "The Decade Project," in which I've been reposting my favorite entries from ten years of blogging. This particular entry focuses on the phrase "the station wagon years," which is something my late father once said to me, and which I was once considering as the title for a book. If you happen to read my entry, I'd be really interested in finding out what the phrase "the station wagon years" conjures up in you.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

When should a father bond with his son? I feel guilty that I don't feel as close to my second child as I do with my first, so I'm trying to think of things I can do to spark that emotional connection with him. I turn to you for help...

Partly a shameless ploy to improve SEO, this week I take on why spanking is functional.

Clip:
"But what’s a father to do? Simplistically, if all other means fail to drive change, then you need to resort to an action that will provide solutions. That’s the functional thing to do, and that’s why spanking is functional."

A friend told me about a conversation between a guy without kids and one with which sparked this post.
