Fatherhood FridayFatherhood Friday is both a day and a growing community of dads and moms sharing stories, ideas, photos and movies with one topic in mind - fatherhood. In a world that seems happy to deliver a message that dads are incapable buffoons, Dad Blogs is committed to changing that perception. The reality is, as we see it, parents today are more aware of parenting and the impact it has on their children and dads everywhere are becoming more active caregivers. So last Sunday night, I got to dig another hole in the back yard. We lost another pet, this time our little dwarf bunny. A few weeks before that I found Amy the cat laying in the driveway. Before that, our dog Thor, preceded by Mr. Bunny. Let's just say that I am getting tired of digging holes.

What makes our latest bunny death unusual is that he was literally scared to death. This little guy was healthy and solid, living it up in his totally awesome outdoor hutch with a 12-foot bunny run. He had it goin' on. Our other two dogs get along with just about any animal, so we didn't expect any problems when we agreed to watch a friend's two large dogs for a night or two. Boy was I wrong.

After hearing nothing from these well-mannered dogs, I suddenly hear frenzied barking outside while I was taking a shower, so I finish up and go outside to see what was going on. These dogs apparently liked to eat bunnies and were freaking out trying to get to him. He was safe in his cage, but being a prey animal, bunny thought he was a goner. So his body responded as such. I lifted him out and carried him in the house. A few hours later, he just died. It was the strangest thing I have ever witnessed. Scared to death has taken on a whole new meaning. So now we await his return as another bunny, dog, cat, rodent...who knows.

All I know is that if any more animals die in the next year, I'm boxing them up and mailing it to WeaselMomma. She is quite experienced in these matters from what I hear. But enough about my dead pets, let's get down to business.

(You may want to add something about the theme to this post, for those who didn't catch the "Fatherhood Friday Theme II" post.)

My condolences on the loss of so many dear 'friends of the family.'

So I screwed up and posted my link twice with the fabulous Mr. Linky. I hardly thought my FF post was worthy of anyone reading twice...

Happy FF! Pete, 1 hefty bag and trash collection day will save you from digging that hole. Poor little bunny deserved a full dress (pajamas, coffee cup and garbage sticker) funeral.

Happy FF everyone. Today's isn't about being a dad so much as about the beginning of how I became one. Have a great one.

I'm kinda off theme, but kinda on theme if you think about it. It's not so much about the start of fall/end of summer, but the start of a new job/end of SAHD week. Plus, it's my 300th post!
