So last Sunday night, I got to dig another hole in the back yard. We lost another pet, this time our little dwarf bunny. A few weeks before that I found Amy the cat laying in the driveway. Before that, our dog Thor, preceded by Mr. Bunny. Let's just say that I am getting tired of digging holes.
What makes our latest bunny death unusual is that he was literally scared to death. This little guy was healthy and solid, living it up in his totally awesome outdoor hutch with a 12-foot bunny run. He had it goin' on. Our other two dogs get along with just about any animal, so we didn't expect any problems when we agreed to watch a friend's two large dogs for a night or two. Boy was I wrong.
After hearing nothing from these well-mannered dogs, I suddenly hear frenzied barking outside while I was taking a shower, so I finish up and go outside to see what was going on. These dogs apparently liked to eat bunnies and were freaking out trying to get to him. He was safe in his cage, but being a prey animal, bunny thought he was a goner. So his body responded as such. I lifted him out and carried him in the house. A few hours later, he just died. It was the strangest thing I have ever witnessed. Scared to death has taken on a whole new meaning. So now we await his return as another bunny, dog, cat, rodent...who knows.
All I know is that if any more animals die in the next year, I'm boxing them up and mailing it to WeaselMomma. She is quite experienced in these matters from what I hear. But enough about my dead pets, let's get down to business.
