What is a Dad Blog?

dictionaryI was scrambling the other day looking for an actual definition of the what a ‘dad blog' is and after spending what seemed like an eternity on Google (see 32 seconds) I gave up and wrote my own.

My Dad Blog Definition:

dad blog (dad blŏg)

n.   A personal weblog about ones journey through fatherhood.  Dad blogs are typically written by men, but sometimes moms who don't write about scrapbooking and Longaberger parties 24/7 unintentionally are writing a lesser/hybrid version of the dad blog.  Dad blogs are both humorous and sage like.  Dad blogs are written by dads who are passionate about their dadliness and are both a place for dads to speak their mind on any number of social issues and pedestal upon which to place their adored children.

ex. "I am awesome thus I write a dad blog."

adj. A category of weblogs that are written by fathers which embody awesomeness.

ex. "Wow, Pete!  That's one fancy supertastic blog you have there."  Angry, but not too angry Pete responds, "It's not a blog it's a dad blog-eat crap and die Gary."

Do you have a dad blog?  Leave a link to it in the comments because we rule.

Dude. Lesser? Less Awesome???? Granted, I don't write a mommy blog, nor do I want to. But I can hang with the guys, and have flare. More Flare than even My Two Daddies!!!! Lesser????? I think you should crown me queen of Dad-Blogs!!!! (except Momo would totally take me out back and teach me a thing or two about blogging in the alley).

Definition 12 may define a dad blog as - (12)a webpage in which stay at home fathers document their downward spiral from socialite, college attending, daily surfer and party animal to an overnight anti-social, diaper changing, poo flinging, depressed because theres no sun indoors guy that would rather be outsourcing his fatherly duties, blog.

It could happen.

Well I'm not a dad but I wanted to lend my support to all the SAHD's out there. As a former SAHM I know how much it can suck (4 kids in 5 years, you better believe I know THAT) but I also know and appreciate the joys of all those tender moments of blissful chaos. Though I've ten years of online experience with various communities and have auth**ed/illustrated a book or four (still not published just this second) I am a blogging virgin so I ask that ya'll please be gentle with me.

I'm just learning my way around the blogosphere and the dadosphere (which is also a good way to describe the shape my torso has begun to take on), and am eager to figure out what goes on here at dadblogs. I have started a blog about how easy it is to be a stay at home dad to twin infants while building an addition on the house. It's full of tenderness and manliness and hilariousness. Read it! http://butterbeanandcobra.blog...-tell.html

My blog comes from a unique perspective because I am both a Dad AND a First Grade teacher. I blog about my daddyness, but I most often just blog about humorous items in the world.

It's the new paradigm. Who knew one of the greatest adventures of a man's life begins when he becomes a Dad.
